Today I’d like to welcome Jocy Hunter of Belmont Baby
Jocy is involved in my local mentorship programme and has helped connect me to many great people. She also happens to be a ‘mumpreneur’ who is building her business as we speak. I knew her insight into the world of entrepreneurship would be great, and boy was I right 🙂
Watch the video below and see if you can learn anything from a young woman making things happen.
Interview Overview:
Learn To Walk
Jocy talks about entering a competition where she could pitch to investors. Although it was a great experience, she realised just how much she had to learn about her business, idea, and market. In hindsight she could have done with more time to learn about the process.
Time Is Key
This mistake led to many great lessons, but it did affect her time on a big scale. All of a sudden every element was stretched, which had a large outcome  on money and her emotional state. It was a frustrating time as she was often left waiting on others.
It’s A Learning Curve
One of the brightest things to come from this was that Jocy learned a great deal about the manufacturing process and the full inside track of her business. This has helped massively as she now has more leverage in discussions.
Be Cheeky
She talks about the need to ask the question and being a little cheeky. It’s important to put yourself out there and meet the right people. This isn’t easy, but everyone is capable of doing it. You just have to be a tad cheeky.
Don’t Kid The Big Boys
As someone who has met with many potential investors, she has this to offer: don’t lie or try to kid them. Be prepared and be very honest. If you don’t know the answer, fine, but the last thing you want to do is try and swerve past them.
Get Help
Jocy finishes up with advice regarding mentoring. As someone who has worked on both sides of this fence, she’s a firm believer in what another person can offer; especially for a young/new entrepreneur.
Thanks for dropping by, I hope you have picked up some tips. Make sure you watch the video and share with some other budding business folk. Until next time…
