It’s Mad Friday, the final Friday before Christmas.

The shops are busy, the bars are chaotic, and I come at you with the Turndog Tales. Consider this the lull before the storm 🙂

Here are my favourite stories from the past week. Merry Christmas and enjoy:

Howey v James

Steven Pressfield is a legend, and this post is interesting to say the least. It will take you a while to read (it’s looooong) but boy is it full of cool, funky stuff.

It looks at, among other things, the benefits of Hugh Howey’s recent deal, when compared to someone like E.L James. Self-Publishers getting signed up by the big boys will continue to happen in the future, so the more we understand this process, the better.

Tackle The Critique

Manuscript critiques are a valued part of the process. I for one would have been left dangling in the wilderness without mine. However, It’s hard to know what to listen to and not. This post by C.S Lakin offers some great tips into what to look out for.

It’s part of the process, but it’s one that is different for everyone. Make life easier and read this post. It will help ease some of your worries 🙂

Introverts Unite

It’s tough being an introvert. So much of the selling process involves being outspoken and confident and willing to chat and seduce. Well, this isn’t exactly an easy achievement for someone who enjoys alone time.

Robin LaFevers offers some great advice for introverts, and how they can tackle the world before them. If you fit in this category, it’s five minutes well spent.

Get In Bookstores

As an indie author it’s tough to get into bookstores. Tough, but by no means impossible.

Stephanie Chandler offers some great advice on how to do this. I don’t plan on selling Beyond Parallel in bookstores just yet, but it’s on the horizon. Pots like this are VERY helpful!

Get Creative With Your Masterpiece

I love a good interview, and this one between Dara Beevas and Julia Tagliere offers some interesting insight.

The two women go into getting creative and how you can get your book in front of the right people. Certainly worth a watch and listen 🙂

The ‘Bloody Hell, Really’ Post

I love Kickstarter and I love crowd funding, but this post about it made me sad.

It’s sad to see so many miss the deadline. It’s still in it’s infancy, so people won’t mind too much, but such service can only last so long. People will get tired of it, lose trust, and a fantastic method to raise funds could be lost. I hope issues like this get sorted ASAP!

And so brings the end of another week, and indeed 2012 here on Turndog Millionaire.

I’m going to take the next week to recharge and make the final preparations for Beyond Parallel come to light. I wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy dappy New Year. Let’s end 2012 in style and open 2013 with good times
