When the name CC Chapman kept cropping up, and people kept saying he was a cool-as-funk storyteller, and someone I was sure to enjoy, I figured I should probably get in touch and invite him to be part of The successful Mistake. Thankfully for me he said yes, and thankfully for you, too, for you’re about to listen to some wise-wise words.

Culture’s a big deal in business, but focus often stays on cross-country culture, and the culture within your own business. Well, this is all fine-and-dandy, but what about your client’s culture, and your suppliers, and everyone else you deal with? This is what CC chats about, and boy you’re about to learn a thing or two…

IN THIS SESSION, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • When you go into a meeting, know who your meeting with, and how you should best approach and talk…
  • If you’re in a room with CEO’s and the like, you may want to bite your lip and not speak out of turn
  • Focussing on your own company culture is important, but don’t forget about your client’s culture, too
  • But so long as you treat people with respect, and you stand by your convictions, you cannot go far wrong
  • Even if it does lead to a lost job, it’s probably down to a lack of alignment between you and the client
  • It’s easier to speak your mind once your work and ideas are working
  • It’s important to understand the rules as early as possible…
  • Who’s the top dog? Who takes constructive criticism well?
  • Simply put, don’t go into meetings and new projects blind
  • If you don’t understand another company’s culture, ask questions and figure out what they like and what they don’t
  • Be proud of the culture you build within your own company and wear it on your sleeve…
  • This way clients and suppliers will appreciate who you are from the offset
  • And this also helps you figure out who the right client is and isn’t

HIS STORY BASED BIO:

Here’s an interesting fact for you: the CC in CC Chapman stands for Courteous Caterpillar – not because CC is a caterpillar, or even a butterfly, but because he loved the book, The Hungry Caterpillar oh-so much that all his buddies from school referred to him as ‘Caterpillar’, which became ‘courteous caterpillar’ after he spent time at Etiquette Camp, which lead to CC for simplicity’s sake.
Another interesting fact: all that’s a lie.
What isn’t a lie is that CC Chapman is an incredible storyteller and marketer and speaker who helps brands stand out through the art of meaningful communications. There’s many nooks and crannies to his world, and I encourage you to explore them all, but in short he’s a top dude who knows what makes a good story. In my book this makes him a fricking superstar!!
