One of the great things about the online world is, the follow-the-breadcrumbs seduction we slips into each day. You read one article, which leads to another, and then a new person, who introduces you to someone else. This is how I came across Greg Hickman, because after interviewing lots of folk for The Successful Mistake, his name kept cropping up.

After a while I took notice, peeked into his world, and dropped my jaw as I fell in love with his style. I’m happy to say he agreed to be part of my book, and this very podcast, too. That’s why you’re here, and soon you’ll dive into his story: a tale all about finding your niche before it’s too late.

IN THIS SESSION, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • If you can’t fine a service or product that you like as a customer, it might be worth creating a business out of it
  • A common question from a potential client will be, ‘Do you understand MY business?’
  • Failing to find a niche, and instead targeting a large group, makes answering this question difficult
  • Whatever it is you do or sell, it’s important get into your customer’s head, understand their thoughts, and appreciate what their pain points are
  • Focussing on one type of person allows you to build features (and ultimately, a product) perfect for that person
  • Trying to focus on everyone, often only wastes your time and money
  • Sometimes it’s better to master a particular niche before expanding outwards
  • Literally saturate your market before moving on…
  • Once you get to the point where you can second guess your customers issues/pain points, they’ll trust that you’re the person to help them
  • There are plenty of ways to niche down your market – it doesn’t always have to be by industry type
  • A good way to figure out your niche is to ask and survey your audience
  • You can also listen to what they say and ask over email, or watch the data (who reads what, who downloads what…)
  • From here, you can build the right product for the audience you can best serve
  • Whenever you can, validate your idea or niche by getting people to pay you first

HIS STORY BASED BIO:

Greg Hickman is obsessed with mobile and automation, and he wants you to become obsesses, too. That isn’t entirely true, because you don’t need to be obsessed, simply recognise that automating parts of your business is important, and that mobile continues to form a more-and-more vital aspect of your world.

Leave the rest to Greg and his wise words, for however you devour him (words, podcast, hire him), he’ll set you on a stellar path.

He also happens to share his journey for all who wishes to, and it’s transparency like this I can jump on board with. As he progresses and grows Mobile Marketing Engine, he’s here to show you the full ins and outs. A guy with a story, and a guy with a story I’m proud to follow.
