Jared Easley is not only the host and head honcho of Starve the Doubt (a rather cool as funk podcast), but one of the men behind Podcast Movement: a conference for podcasters, by podcasters.

As you can imagine, he’s the type of person I wanted to be part of The Successful Mistake, and boy did he blow me away with his stories, wisdom, and so much more. Focussing on building a product for his audience, you can a lot from this wee chat of ours. A biggie, that not only applies to podcasters, but business folk in general.

IN THIS SESSION, YOU’LL LEARN:

• Placing too much emphasis on analytics and metrics isn’t always the way to go

• When building a product or brand, it isn’t about you – it’s about your audience

• Collaborating with them and noticing who they are can make all the difference

• When you notice someone and honour them, this matters – they remember you and appreciate you

• When it’s just you, it’s hard to get noticed

• But when you build an army of people, it’s easier to get noticed together

• Rather than look at it is a following, treat people like friends.

• This is harder to do when you get bigger, but treating each relationship like a friendship can make all the difference

• If everyone else in your industry is doing one thing, try something new

• Branch out, be creative, and create your own path (in Jared’s case, he started to use co-hosts)

• Anytime you create something that leaves your audience saying, “Me too“… you’ve made a difference

• If you’re unsure what your next step should be, talk to be people…

• Interview them, collaborate them, reach out to customers, influencers, those you look up to…

• Whenever possible, validate your idea

• The last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time on a product that people don’t want
