Today I interview Mike McDerment, the founder of the glorious Freshbooks Brand. I instantly fell in love with Freshbook’s story and style, so interviewing Mike for The Successful Mistake was high on my list. In this chat we discuss Great Mistakes and adversity, and how he’s overcome them to take Freshbooks to where it is today – one of the world’s leading Cloud Accounting Systems. A great interview, I’m sure you’ll agree.

The Interview Overview

1. Mike talks about the name of Freshbooks and the brand overall, and how it took a while to evolve into what it is today
2. Not enough focus was placed on this initially, and after 3 years they faced a complete re-brand
3. Mike’s main mistake was investing in some data software, however, and the journey this took him on
4. He discusses knowing when to cut loose from an idea, and how you constantly cling on to the hope that: “it will be better around the corner.”
5. Eventually they did leave this software behind, and Mike talks about how they were able to develop things cheaper and more effectively.
6. He also discusses how it’s made him stronger, and how he’s more confident in making certain decisions these days.
