I cannot recall when I first came across this about page example, but I consider it one of the best in the world. I seem to remember finding Rameet Chawla in Forbes, and because he has a rather awesome name and is reminiscent to an Indian Jesus, I said to myself, “I should check this chap out.”
So I did, and it lead me to FUELED: the agency he runs in New York City, and a company that takes creativity to the next level. Their About and Team Pages look different today than they did back then, but they remain one of the best (the best?) about page example around.
Their entire website is aces, which isn’t a surprise considering they design incredible Mobile Experiences (Apps and Websites and such...). Every time I visit their site it changes and evolves with the times, forever pushing the boundaries and showcasing who they and what they do in style.
But however it looks today remains irrelevant, because the reason this is one of my faved about page example is because of their approach and style. What you see on the surface changes, but these important building blocks don’t.
That’s the point, and it’s why I hope you keep reading and check out this most awesome About Page Example!
A FINE EXAMPLE OF SHOW, NOT TELL
As you enter their About Page, you’re met with a video (you can watch it below), and I’ll be honest with you, at first I didn’t know what to think. In essence it’s a showreel, which I don’t consider the best manner to showcase who you and what you’re about.
An About Page is about you, your staff, your culture, and your clients – not WHAT you do and HOW you do it.
But the more I think, and the more I watch, the more I like this video. Why? Because they show, don’t tell. When it comes to storytelling, this is rule number one.
There are no words, interviews, or dialogue in Fueled’s video, yet despite this you learn several important aspects:
- They’re fun, creative & exciting – everything from the music to the fast-paced footage. It’s clear these guys add a flair of colour to proceedings.
- They build mobile apps & websites – without talking about this, they SHOW you everything you need to know in a creative manner – including their workflow and process.
- They work with some BIG clients – as above, they allow what’s on the screen to show you everything you need to know
I won’t go as far to say this is one of my favourite videos because it remains a showreel, which, as I’ve already said, isn’t my faved approach. BUT as far as showreels go this is damn good. They don’t dumb it down and play their audience for a fool. They don’t ram what they do down your throat.
They showcase what they work on and provide an insight into the process they take. They show you who they work with without gloating or saying, ‘look at me!!’
Above all, they SHOW… they do not tell.
If you search the rest of their website you’ll notice a similar style and approach. They show throughout and keep that creative, exciting, and fast-paced feel no matter where you look. They’re big and bold and beautiful, which brings me to another aspect I love from this fine-and-dandy about page example…
BE BIG & BOLD
As a fan of minimalism, I appreciate a big and bold approach. We live in an attention deficit society after all, so the less you say, the better. You still need to get your point across, of course, but it’s all about doing so with as few words and detail as you can.
Fueled’s about page brims with big and bold text, chunky fonts, and everything else. The thing is, they don’t just use this approach, but thrive because of it. As soon as you enter their site you get a feel for who they are, and who they are is a bunch of creative people who produce high quality results.
This about page is to the point.
This about page produces no mess.
There’s no fluff to this page, and just like they don’t play their audience for fools in their video, they let you make your own mind up as you scroll down the page. They show you what you need to know and move on. It’s simple. It’s big. It’s bold. Their use of bold words come together to form a unique and powerful message.
These guys work with some of the world’s finest, so they have no need to go-on-and-on-and-on. Too often, I find brands dilute their message by over-explaining things and complicating their message. Fueled do not, and this big and bold approach ensures they stay on-point at all times – defining what sets them apart.
FUELED DEFINED – DEFINED BY FUELED
When I first discovered Rameet and Fueled, their About Page and Team Page were as one. Unlike any site I’d seen, they blew me away, so it doesn’t surprise me they separate the two these days – a team page brimming with so much awesome deserves its own space.
As above, their bold approach to images, colour, and drawings define them.
If Fueled were a woman, and you saw her walk down the street, she’d wear a striking red dress with the co-ordaination of an old movie star. You’d stop and stare in awe. You’d double glance and take a mental image.
If Fueled were a dude, he’d be George ‘fricking‘ Clooney.
I suppose what I’m trying to say is, Fueled wear who they are on their sleeve. Their people (Rameet and co) don’t try to be anyone else because they are who they are. This shines through on their about page, and throughout the rest of the site, too, which I suppose is the entire point.
These days, your about page extends beyond a single page. It’s often an introduction to who you are, but the true extension is how this expands to the next page… and the one after that… and the one after that…
You slip further down the rabbit hole of quirky Fueled goodness, and this is why it’s an about page example I love!
AN ABOUT PAGE EXAMPLE THAT SETS THE BEST EXAMPLE
I’m in awe of this about page example, and after reading this post I hope you agree it’s one of the best around. The great thing is it continues to evolve and grow, so what you see today may not be what you see tomorrow.
Depending when you read this article, it may look different to the screenshots above.
Irrelevant, if you ask me. It’s their style and approach that matters, and I sense this won’t change anytime soon. There’s so much to love about their about page (and team page, too), but the way they SHOW instead of telling is the be-all-and-end-all. It’s storytelling 101, and in this day and age we all share stories…
Our story. Your story.
I’m sure you’re full of ideas right now. Maybe you wish to replicate a few of the features Fueled pull off so well. Maybe you’d like to but can’t because you don’t have the skill-set or money or whatever… Again, irrelevant!
You too can SHOW not tell. That’s what Fueled do, and it’s why I consider it one the best (the best?) about page example around. I’d love to hear if you agree, and if you happen t0 have any questions, get in touch with me on FACEBOOK or TWITTER.
