Let me guess, you hate change, right?
Most people do and rightly so. Change is sudden and often forced. It usually takes everyone by surprise.
For example, after 9/11 there was a lot of change at airports. It was a nightmare. What previously took an hour now took two. It was a huge change and everyone hated it.
Of course, change was necessary. Something terrible happened and action had to be taken. The airports are prime examples of reaction. They rarely anticipate things, and as such, they change rather than evolve.
The Difference Between Evolution & Change
Evolution is a natural occurrence. It happens in order to make things better. People might hate change, but evolution is much different.
Change is Reactive
Evolution is Proactive
If the travel industry had been proactive, measures would have been put in place long before 9/11. I know hindsight is great, but things are usually somewhat predictable.
Reacting to things has you forever chasing shadows. The only way you can truly stay on top is by being proactive.
How Marketing Is Evolving
Marketing isn’t changing, it’s evolving. The Internet, Social Media & the way Consumers Interact; it’s all there to see. Things are evolving. The past isn’t going to return!
I discuss this in my Free Ebook, What Is Strategic Marketing. I recommend reading it (all 15 pages) and seeing whether you agree with my predications or not. I know fashion tends to repeat itself every 10 years, but marketing is a tad different.
People are already starting to adapt, after all, most businesses have a Twitter handle and Facebook Page. Everything fixed, right? Wrong!
Are You Ready To Embrace?
I work with young entrepreneurs, people embracing this ever evolving world. If you’re starting a new business, ask yourself what type of marketer you are.
Are you an old school guru clinging to the past?
Or are you embracing the future?
I truly hope you are the embracing kind. Clinging to the past will have you reacting and chasing shadows. Do you really want your business to do this? You maybe thinking everything is fine. After all, everyone is already on Twitter.
It’s not the channel that’s important, it’s how you use it. This evolution is based around the consumer. They want conversations. They want interaction.
Are you proactive enough to see where this trend is going?
Marketing Is Evolving
I’m just a crazy young marketer, right?
I’m naive, and soon the world will go back to normal, yes?
If thats what you believe, good luck to you. I’d love to hear your thoughts below. I’m always game for hearing the other side of the argument. However, if you fight it you’ll only regret it down the line. Evolution happens with or without you. The way society is interacting has shifted. As marketers we need to adapt or die. Are you in?
Marketing is evolving and I’m ready for it. Are you?
